A Shared Beginning
With Smiths began with a meeting that only travel could orchestrate. Stephanie, originally from the United States, and Blaine, born and raised in South Africa, met while traveling and guiding in one of the world’s most unforgettable places. What started as a chance encounter became a shared life shaped by curiosity, movement, and a shared belief in experiencing places slowly and well.
Stephanie’s path into travel began on the advisory side, designing thoughtful journeys and learning how detail, pacing, and perspective shape the way a trip feels. Blaine’s work is rooted in guiding and operating in Southern Africa, where he continues to co-own and lead one of the region’s most forward-thinking destination operators. Together, with over 12 years experience, those perspectives inform everything we do.
From guest and guide to husband and wife, we divide our time between South Africa and the United States, traveling often between places as varied as Vermont and Queenstown. Living between continents has given us a clear understanding of both what it means to arrive somewhere new and what it takes to truly know a place over time.
Our shared focus is on travelers who value experience over excess and who appreciate the difference between visiting a place and truly connecting with it.
